TWILIF ~ twelve: a special number

this and images below: the twelve months with Dutch-Germanic names
as depicted in Wolfsangel / Der Vaderen Erfdeel (1936-'38)
Louwmaand - January

From the amount of fragments with the number twelve and the fact that most lists of laws have twelve rules, it becomes clear that this was a special number. I also don't think it is a coincidence that the ode to Frya ("Frya was white like snow ...") has twelve parts, nor that there were 12 burghs mentioned in the list of reeves (page 5).

Our clocks have 12 hours, our calendars 12 months (the year has 12 or 13 full moons), the dozen is still a well known grouping of twelve pieces and in the Christian religion, Jesus had twelve apostles, etc..

This number may have been sacred, its spelling was not, as is demonstrated below. TWILIF was the most common spelling.

Sprokkelmaand - February

ÉTHLA ~ ancestors

"Die Ahnensäule"
1938, Rudolf Gahlbeck
ÉTHLA (and varieties) for "ancestors" has been lost in our languages, but it still lives forth somehow as "edel" (and varieties) for "noble". Why and how would a word for such a familiar concept have disappeared and been replaced?

ancestors, forefathers, forbears - english
Vorfahren, Ahnen - german
voorouders, voorvaderen - dutch
voorouers - afrikaans
foarâlders - frisian
forfedre, aner - norse
forfædre - danish

forfeður - icelandic
frumfaðir - faroese

(noble - english)
edel - german, dutch, norse, afrikaans

NÉSTON, NÉSTA etc. ~ next of kin, nearest, neighbors, equals

The following key fragment of 1935 German film "Friesennot" (Frisians in Distress), a.k.a. "Dorf im Roten Sturm", about a German-Frisian anabaptist colony in Bolsjevik Russia, is as relevant today as it was then:

 Dutch subtitled version here

The core of the Christian religion is the command to love "the Lord, thy God" and "thy neighbor". (What god would command his creation to love him?!)

Particularly the second part "love thy neighbor" is used still today, explicitly or implicitly, to force European nations to welcome an invasion of so-called refugees from very different cultures and tribes.

We will first show the bible quotes and then see what is said about the concept of "neighbor" or "next of kin" in the Oera Linda book. We will examine the varieties of this word in the OLB and in NW European languages.

Quotes from Bible, King James Version:
Matthew 22:37-39 and Mark 12:30-31
Thou shalt love the Lord thy God [...] Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Luke 10:27
Thou shalt love the Lord thy God [...] and thy neighbour as thyself.
Leviticus 19:18
Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself [...]

"Thy neighbor" in other NW European language Bible translations:
deinen Nächsten - German (Luther, 1545)
din nästa - Swedish (1917)
Charity by W.A. Bouguereau (1878)
din næste - Danish (1933), Norse (1930)
náunga þinn - Icelandic
uwen naesten/ uw naaste - Dutch (1637/ 2010)
dyn neiste - Frisian (1943)

Varieties and fragments in the OLB

page 001 new English translation

Page one of my new English Oera Linda translation (experimental phase). I have decided not to stick to the original wording (leaving names and some key terms untranslated), but make it a more easy read which still gives voice to the essence as I percieve it after 6 years of studying it. It is the first English translation that offers an easy way of comparing to transliteration and original manuscript.
Proper introduction, discussion, index etc. will be added in the final (paper) version.
